Did a run out to Winton for a Sprint in early December. Loaded up an array of tools and spares on Saturday arvo and took off in the rain... and it kept raining ?
Was pretty well loaded up, car had a bit of XY GT stance
Arrived at Wangaratta Saturday evening. Still raining but Great Alpine road looking good as ever
AirBnB lady commented that my car sounded angry but since she liked the colour, let me park in the driveway.
Arrived at Winton early next morning to find Phil with his factory 6 cylinder 250 XA coupe! Great bloke and car, has driven and raced it just about everywhere in Aus.
Not a big turn out at Winton so found a spot between the Falcon and some nice blokes running a pretty serious Group A 5L race car
Only got 2 timed laps in (best of 1:46.2 not pushing it hard) after a good practice session before the front uni on the driveshaft got a slight wobble (vibration) in it, which only became apparent above 160km/h or so. Nice chaps with the Group A lent a hand to jack up and inspect. We all agreed it was too shagged to race but good enough to limp home.
Got it home by early evening, a good run at 90km/h with no crazy vibration. A short day but learned a lot more about the setup. The lower control arms have been well worth it as they solved the 1.0 degree caster variation from left to right, added positive caster overall and added the ability to run up to -4.0 camber, (ran -3.55 here at Winton).
Rebuilt driveshaft is in now and is running great. Looking forward to the next outing!
