I was inspired at the Wreckers this Saturday with this beauty, lol, so the trial fit up can commence.

This is dealer pull-off Camaro ZL1 blower from the States. It's been rebuilt with a new coupler, oil and gaskets but is otherwise stock. Have been waiting a long time to see just how 'bolt-on' this is going to be. The plan is to deliver 9psi to the engine with minimal modification and be easily reversible back to NA.

It fits quite easily. Clears clutch master and other areas by 12mm or more, so that was lucky. Strut brace will receive a new centre section to clear the intercooler/lid assembly. Not sure about bonnet clearance yet. Also bolted up the stock throttle body which clears everything and used the stock 90deg coupler with a 45 just to dummy up the intake. Looks pretty close to where it will end up. As you can see the blower itself sits right at the bottom of the 'V' and blows upward through an intercooler and into the engine.

Dummied up the fuel rail and intercooler/lid assy which was a bit of a challenge to get in there, but I think will fit no problem if the coil brackets are lowered slightly downward. Will need to machine the intercooler/lid assy so that it clears the bonnet, but is actually very close to fitting.

Can hopefully remove some material from the intercooler/lid assy and slightly notch bonnet support to gain enough clearance. It's not far off really. Enough for one weekend, too cold.

My mate has a VF gts, same gear obviously, it smokes tyres with factory tyres and traction control on, but also they use a twin plate clutch and bigger box to handle the torque, will you be doing any other upgrades straight away?

No idea. But I will be using the latest-gen version of the Bosch pump used on everything AMG and Mercedes from the Mclaren SLR to the ML63. Flow's similar to the ZL1 pump. I've got the factory MB isolater, bracket and wiring harness that I will adapt up also.

Yes, they use the MG9 version of the TR6060 with an external cooler. They also use a monstrous 10 inch diff. I'm running the LS7 clutch and flywheel which many supercharged VF's run with mild boost without too many dramas.

I'll be a good deal lighter than the GTS with relatively less traction, so we'll see.

I didn't need to mention the diff, I read 9.5" diff though.

The ring gear measures 9.9", close enough to 10.0" for me. Point is, the whole driveline is super stout.

Yeah, it's why I love them. Insanity and a good reason to buy one over modifying an na Holden with small diff etc.

Have been doing lots of bits and pieces.

Intercooler reservoir is an aftermarket Landrover Disco expansion tank. I pinched a Disco bracket from a wreck and cut and shut it to fit. It's a nice pressed steel item. Light and strong.

Then added return fitting and painted it. The cap is Holden TS Astra/Saab

The Intercooler lid needed machining on the top edge to clear the bonnet. Here it is stock:

Then had to machine remove the stock quick-connect fittings from the fitting block and machine for normal 3/4" barbs.

The lid re-fitted with fittings welded up and painted. The intercooler hoses are UC Torana heater hoses :)

Used the remainder of the Landrover Disco Coolant tank bracket to make a bracket for the intercooler pump, so that it mates up with the Mercedes clamp bracket. One of those rare occasions you happen to have everything in stock you need to make it work!

Also got the pump installed and the lower half off the plumbing in. The hoses are a mix of off the shelf bends cut and shut to suit. The ducting below the heat exchanger is corflute sourced from Bunnings. Should seal off the heat exchanger nicely and force air through from the front to back only

Found this at Pick-a-part. Same month, year, trim level and colour as mine. It was put down the production line in Clayton just 47 cars before mine. Maybe the closest vehicle to a twin I will ever find. It was a litte rusty (but not bad), had some average front end repairs and over 300k on the clock... Yet, it had a near mint set of door pockets. Never thought I would find a set of these at Pick-a-part. $8.00 for the pair.
