Ex850R I am going old aluminium LCAs with replaceable ball joints for the cost reason you are copping James.
jamesinc @Ex850R yes, on my last 850R I got lucky and happened to find a '94 850 at the wreckers, however this time around I've had no such luck. Still, control arms aren't so terribly expensive that the cost difference is burning a hole in my pocket. @Philia_Bear will also probably recall how much fun it was pressing the old bushings out of the alloy control arms.
Ex850R I expect you had a ball!! Can't burn em cos alloy , pressing , again , carefully cos alloy , alluminium n carbon do get real close I understand..... I now remember the alloy dock unloader chute/snout that vacuumed the alumina from the hold of the ship at ALCOA Geelong. Of course it wore out from abrasion and had wear patches with rubber held in with , stupidly , carbon bolts!! Silicon too , just to make welding them a bit more fun.... I have a set of LCAs but need to convert the R subframe to single (2) bolt mounting rather than the newer (4) bolt subframe. Good fun. What else ye doing on the R?
jamesinc Nothing, other than keeping it in good shape. I need to take the rear wheels to be refurbished as they have massive flat spots on the rims that are causing some vibration.
jamesinc Nope. I have an ME4.4 ECU into which I've installed a flashmode toggle switch, and an OBD cable, but I haven't got around to giving it a go yet. Maybe later.
Philia_Bear of course after I place the order I realize I also needed one extra bit... yay for FCP having a nice online system to deal with this
