Tyre Options for 240 with 16" wheels

For those playing at home, I had 205mm wide tyres on my Virgos. For my next car, I have a set of 16" wheels (bought from @Rob at Parkes meet), and I'm wanting to get a bit more tyre width.

The wheels that I have are 108 x 5 x 35 (I assume that the 35 equals offset?). What is the widest tyre that I can put on a 240 without needing spacers? 215 or even 225 might be good times.

What width rims? 35 offset is high for a rwd car, will need spacers depending on the width. If its a 7" rim, definitely spacers, 15mm or more on the rear, 10 on the front minimum. For tyres, the re003, with 205/50/16 tyres. 205 is perfect for a 7" rim, no roll etc on the tyre.

Presume your 16" are 16x7" if so biggest is 225/45/16 - but as Vee Q says 205/50 is smack on correct.

35 mm offset is a bit odd. I would really do some trail fits to know where yr going before emptying yr pockets with new tyres.

Looks like I'll be keeping the Virgo's for a while then :(

Turns out that the 35 offset on the box is incorrect. They are 25 offset.

So, no bigger than 205's, as Alex suggested above?

205s are a good match for 7" wide rims.
Anything much wider will almost certainly have LESS grip, as the tyre's carcass is misshapen to squeeze onto the relatively narrow rim.

215s will be fine if they fit, although I'm not a fan of the way they look on 7" rims. 225s get into 1980s bogan territory, and make my stomach churn...

What's the stock tyre size for a Virgo? 195/60/15 , or 195/65/15? It's 60, isn't it?

195/60, I think. Although 185/70 is also common enough to make me wonder.

Cheers. I compared 195/60/15 to 205/50/16 and the speedo will be pretty spot on. That's the tyre size that I'll go for. Thanks again.

Agreed, as above. No chance I'd fit a 225 to a 7" wide wheel.

205/50/16 would be what I'd be fitting to it.

ET35 will require a spacer, your virgos are ET20, so these will put you a further 15mm in per side and therefore narrow the track by 30mm.

I'd probably go for a 25mm spacer all round, giving you a net offset of ET10.

Alex has assured me (by having the exact same wheels) that the box marking is wrong, and that the offset is 25mm, not 35mm. Would I still need spacers?

Here are the wheels in question. Should I get the powdercoated black, like my Virgo's were?
@Rob , do you remember if the 35 offset stated on the box is accurate?

It should be cast into the back of one of the spokes on the wheel.
If they're ET25, you're fine.
