79 244 Fuel pumps

I have done some diagnostics on my non running '79 244 with K-jet.
It seems the fuel pumps have given up.
I have looked on Rockauto and in shows a few different pumps, including with VDO pump and except VDO pump??
Do I have to pull both pumps before I can order, or is there another way I can tell what pumps are fitted?

I would prefer to leave the car in one piece until the parts arrive.

I replaced the blown fuses, and the fried fuel pump relay.
I tried jumping from the terminal on the 5th fuse to the opposite terminal on the 7th fuse as suggested here http://cleanflametrap.com/transferPump.htm
It was causing a spark when connecting the jump wire, indicating to me the pump was getting power, but is dead??
I have not checked power at the pumps.
Fwiw, the fuel gauge also doesn't work. I thought it may have just been out of fuel, so added 20L and the gauge is still showing empty.

So it looks like I need to drag it into the shed and remove the pumps?

I'd check for shorts and power at the pumps first.

- in pump cables under rear seat (or under the car)
- tank pump accessible under carpet in boot.

Agree. I would check for power AT the pump before ordering a new one. If you get no power at the pump terminal then you can fault trace back from there. If there is power at the pump then you can assume the pump is dead. The fact your fuel gauge also doesnt work tells me you have some break in the line somewhere.
