Well... several hours and lost tempers later. It is done. Will take it for a decent drive on Monday to test it out and let you all know. Took so long because we were trying to make a gap to put the zip tie through with a broom handle from the top. Got one zip tie through but no way I could get #2 through... just kept on bending and my helper above was not keen anymore. Actually went through 2 helpers... Finally, partner said to try hammering a small screwdriver in to make the gap. Yeehaa... was easy peasy (sort of) after that. With the aid of plyers as well. We had to take the splash shield off first to get at it and then I was the only one with small enough hands to do the work. Not so much fun but I will be over the moon if it actually works. Need a beer now!
Thanks again for everyone's help and I will let you all know the verdict Monday night.

Yay... air conditioning. A couple of really hot days and it didn't miss a beat. Thank you so much Nicko. It was unbearable driving it on 40 degree days without aircon. It is now a joy to drive.

re: your wishbones if not done, best way is from this guy.
From the info when I did mine. Meyle HD ones with a new ball joint.
"ebay user name "mautosau" his name is Rob.I think he is involved with the BMW club. Good seller up front and honest. He didn't list the 850 ones on ebay but sourced them and kept me informed about the deal.
Both arms were $186.40 including postage. "

Thanks for that Nicko, they are already done. Had to do it in a hurry for rego 6th Feb. Car going beautifully... now to work on the 240! Taking a bit of a break. Want to get it fixed in the not too distant future though as I would like to sell it.
