Someone bought a digital to analogue converter and never used it for a similar purpose. I can see if he wants to sell it.

Up to 77 is coarse spline, the m45 is the coarse spline model usually.

If an m47 with a speedo drive exists it'd save me a lot of time and effort. Otherwise I'll probably just swap to a digital speedo cluster and diff, probably easier than putting together a hybrid solution (assuming I can find the parts for reasonable money.)

I don't believe an m47 with a speedo drive exists from factory. With the exception of there being no speedo drive, the m47 rear housing looks pretty much the same as an m45 rear housing that has a speedo drive. I've always been curious if its possible to put an m47 rear housing on the back of an m47 to get a speedo drive.

I've read that M47s with a speedo drive exist but it sounds like I certainly won't be able to find one if they do. Sounds like a diff and cluster swap is on the cards.

The M46 overdrive is cool but after the time I've spent trying to get it working I'm ready to put it in the bin.

Who is familiar with both 360s and 240s with M47?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the 360 have a gearbox called the M47R?

And didn't it have a speedo drive?

Or is it just the numbers are similar and the M47 and M47R are totally different animals?

Having just seen the parts books and remembering the numbers, but not really being familiar with either in the actual ~~flesh~~ metal, might mean this could be a load of old bollocks.

The M47R has the same internals, but the whole gearbox is "R"otated on its side 90 degrees. It has a different output shaft I THINK, as it mates directly to the rear diff.

Thanks James - that all makes sense.

I got curious and looked it up - the speedo on a 360 is mechanically driven from the LHF wheel hub, and not the gearbox, as the M47R doesn't have a speedo drive. Damn. :(
