Right, but the suspension setup on the black car was so poor that it might have been hurting you in the terms of 2-4 seconds+ per lap
Spac
Yep. Today I realised that the S40 has WAY more front swaybar than the Mirage. While it didn't obviously feel like too much swaybar, it does partially explain why the spring rates are so damn high.
What happens from here depends on whether I can negotiate a deal with the old bloke in Qld with the V40 T4.
Very loose plan is:
8-ball's motor goes into the white T4;
Cyborg suspension goes back into the Cyborg and the Cyborg is sold (have a buyer lined up);
Seat goes into the white NA car;
Silver T4 becomes the track day/Supersprint car;
8-Ball's gearbox is removed and repaired for when the Renault box in the NA car shits itself;
What's left of 8-Ball is pushed down the back and ignored;
Drink heavily.

So you're moving onto the other t4? Whats the white one for?
Spac
If the loose plan goes ahead:
1. Silver T4 = track car;
2. White T4 = road car (taking over from the silver T4);
3. White NA = Marulan CCC car (replacing the Frikken Laser);
4. 8-Ball = yard art (well, not really - but you get the idea);
5. Mirage rally car = Khanacross & occasional/El Wifeo's rally car.
6. Galant rally car = "main" rally car.
The curve balls are:
A) the red V40 in Qld and my desire to build a T4 rally car;
B) the CC Lancer I found, and the twin cam 4G63 I already own (remembering that a CC Lancer is closely related to an S40, so everything brake/suspension/wheel wise is interchangeable. Somewhat ironically, because of the IP rules, the more seriously I take it, the more the Lancer makes sense over a T4).

For most of my adult life, I've had the time but not the money. Then kids came along and I had some spare money but virtually zero time.
Now there's a bit more time, but it's broken into one or two hour blocks and I am still working out how to use those blocks effectively.
Stuff like motor swaps that I used to do in a morning, now require weeks of planning... This is why mini-projects like 8-Ball and the Frikken Laser have suited me so well, but the V70 never got the manual swap and the Mirage race car hasn't been touched in over a year.

I fully understand the 'money but no time' sentiment.
The kid (and the one on the way) effectively have put an end to racing karts for me - you need to practise to be competitive at the level I have been competitive at and I dont have the time to spend 3 full weekends a month testing or racing and the required 2 or 3 weeknights every week for prep. I'm not interested in doing a few events a year and finishing further back than I should because I cannot invest the time.
Like you, I have usable 'blocks' of time that I can spend on hobbies or non-work related things. Again, like you, these are one or two hour blocks. I get these a couple of times a week typically and I've actually been doing 18-20 hour days every day for the last three and a little bit weeks and I'm doing less contract/consulting stuff (deliberately) now.
Tasks that require bigger blocks of time do require precision planning and a concerted effort to minimise wasted time.

This thread really is great. I need to refill my coffee and go back to the top.
bowie
ok drank my coffee,
This thread is great. I now have a proper plan B if no one needs an old S40. :P

Cheers for the bump, Dan!
Very interesting for me to go back to this thread... been a lot of water under the bridge since then!
8-ball was scrapped a couple of years back now. Still got a few odds and ends from it, but not a lot.

Did that trick harness bar survive?
I feel history is going to repeat itself here, your thread was really encouraging.
Spac
Harness bar is still here.
There’s a (different) harness you could have too.
I also have a driver’s seat frame, probably a Momo race seat, a steering wheel boss, and I’m pretty sure that the TRW brake pads are still around too.
Everything but the seat is free if you want it.

That's very generous of you Nathan, Pm incoming.
