  • Pauls 1990 240

It's a 1990 240 that came into my family when I was 15. I learnt to drive in it, did my drivers test in it, drove it to high school and now uni. It has never let me down, and I am strangely attached to it!
It is generally pretty neat, but a few blemishes here and there.

The car:
1990 240, M47, light blue metallic with blue cloth interior.
Gemini rims off a 740HP, re-002 tires.
DVS spec front springs, king spring rears
Bilstein HD front and rear shocks
DVS sump guard
Momo Cavallino steering wheel with R-Sport button
Polk Audio 5.25" front, and 6.5" rear
Power windows installed
Clear rear indicators
Tint
Front seats have been re-foamed with MUCH bigger side bolsters
Extensive sound deadening throughout
Retrofitted air con
GLE 3 guage cluster
Front center cupholder arm rest

Future plans:
Fix rattly exhaust
Install K cam and adjustable cam gear
Bigger sway bars
Black out all chrome trim

Tops car and love the passion you have poured into your first car.
Looks good still! I'm still up for helping with the cam swap too.
A_Volvo_Driver;7801 wroteGreat work mate. May you have the Volvo bug for life :)
Wait, what? Volvo did a Beetle!?? WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED!!!!
Ah, an illicit liaison, mon frère!
Nice car Paul. Good to see someone step away from the P-plater stereotype too (VL/stupidly cut springs/garish paint on dash bits/awful wheels/etc). :)
A_Volvo_Driver;7810 wroteYep. A C30 is the offspring.
And thanks for ruining C30s for me! :(

Thanks guys! When I was 15 and looking to buy my first car I was looking at an e30 bmw, but my family owning volvos and coming across this one I went the Volvo route and am stuck with the bug. My inspiration still comes a lot from 80's sports variants of standard cars like what an m3 was to the 3 series, or the rs2 was to the audi, the aero to the Saab 900 etc. I want it to look like Volvo had a sports 4 door in 1990. I love the look of a good clean original car, so I won't ever be putting anything on that doesn't fit the period of the car or what might have been back in the day.
Ps, thanks heaps Alex but my brother and I are going to have a crack at the camshaft in the next week or so. Thanks for the offer though mate!
*still getting speaker grilles for you Unca G ;-)
No worries tigs, let me know when you've found them :)
Nice clean example there @PaulG

Doing it up 'like factory' and not too crazy is an awesome way to do it mate, great thinking :)

So when is it getting turbo charged? A car like homers on tbricks is what would be an ultimate 240 to me. But it needs to be a turbo for the sports volvo of the 80s like the real turbo volvo was ;)
Was originally planning on the turbo to happen in May this year when I am off my P's so I can do it legally, but being in my final year at uni as well as at that time where I am looking to move out of home it doesn't make sense to do it until I am out of home and finished uni. I will see how I go with the cam swap, cam gear, and extractors for now but long term plan is turbo.

Is Homers the metallic grey one? I absolutely love that car
Nice clean car , well done.

Bit of an update.

K cam and adjustable cam gear (+2) was installed a while back. First time for me being inside a volvo engine so absolutely shat myself starting it up after the swap but all was well. Idle is a bit grumpy as to be expected but can definitely feel more pep around 3800 to 5000 rpm. Also had to replace worn tires. Stuck with RE002 as I liked them before and bridgestone had a buy 3 get one free deal

Swapped head unit for one that works with android phones (JVC something or other, dual rear usb input so nice and clean looking)

Had some issues with the car cutting out and not starting (a couple times cutting out and stalling whilst doing 80kph which was scary). Clearly a fuel problem but I couldn't figure out what. The fine folks at Berry thought it was the cat but all seemed ok, and it was a mystery from there as the car seemed fine. One of those intermittent problems that is never around when you're trying to diagnose it.

We eventually swapped out the O2 sensor for another unit and problem solved!

My exhaust completely fell of where it joins to the cat just the other day which made for a very loud and interesting drive back from Traralgon.... Replaced the cat, all good.... for now...

I'm worried that the car is now reaching that time of it's life where more and more things are going to start to go wrong. Hopefully with regular maintenance she will be ok. She is now up to 153,000kms.
