I installed the tailgate repair kit last night and the rattling has reduced to a small squeak, which tbh is every bit as annoying because you can head it over music! :(

Oh good luck managing to stop the squeak. If all else fails, louder stereo.

What if that tailgate panel was beefed up with a cut bit of thick polystyrene, bonded into it and put some 5mm nutserts into the steel, some big flat head screws or bolts, socket head and screw the bastard in properly, no whimpy plastic bits?
(another project I haven't looked at yet...)

Something bed in and the squeak stopped.

In other news, the wheel shop called to let me know that one of the Volans had a 15 inch radial fracture that had been tigged in the past. They said the repair was fine, but the balance would be difficult to get right, so it'll be the spare.

Been inside my V70 Rs tailgate replacing the lock and outside handle trim for better looking one.
I see that it's only the very crap mounts that are the issue.
The rods that perform the locking and actuation cross over and may clash but not likely unless the end plastic bush is broken maybe. Some foam around the rods can be a preventative measure.
I painted the interior of the very tinny tailgate with deadener, foam filling it would be a good idea and polystyrene foam in the trim part would help too. Extra fixtures in 6 points screwed into the metal gate would be ideal, no more issues at all then.
My fiddling continues.
