240: AW70/71 driveshaft vs AW72 driveshaft

I suspect the AW72 driveshaft in a 240 is a tiiiiny bit shorter than an AW70/71 driveshaft, but I can't find anything other than a clunking rear-end to confirm this. Does anyone know one way or the other?

AW72 was never put into a 240,
AW70/1/2 are all same physical size anyways

Identical size. Further the slip joint with the middle uni makes up any movement differences.

Well I will need to further investigate that clunk then. On a related note, I don't have a shifter linkage for a 240. The one I have is one I got from a 7/9, and I cut it and welded it up to be the right length.

Mike how come I picked up an AW72 with mechanical speedo drive from your parts shelf? I wouldn't have thought an AW72 ever came with a mechanical speedo.

@VolvoHordz and I converted it using the rear tail shaft from a 240 based AW70 a while ago

the trans was originally from the white 8+8 740 now sitting up at AJ's place

The 8+8 740 itself came from spac and included a huntsman spider of epic size

The motor from the 740 was the one that ended up in wino's 940 for a while until he killed it

There is a lot of history that goes with that trans :-)

Well it'll probably be a good trans again if you do the valve body mod. It also needs a kickdown cable.

^ it still has the same tailhousing design as the AW71 I just installed.
