Maybe.
But maybe not.
Understeered like a pig all day. Really bad. Like squealing the tyres on the warm down lap...
Fucked around with toe-in/toe-out, and tyre pressures all to no avail. Needs a proper rethink, but my gut feeling is that it needs a lot less front shock absorber, much more rear swaybar and maybe less neg camber on the front.
Also had issues with the clutch master cylinder shitting itself in practice. I did qualifying without using the clutch while Paulie went and chased a replacement. Somehow managed to qualify 3rd out of four.
Paulie returned with a Ford Courier part, which was adapted by using an angle grinder (photo tomorrow once I have taken it). It works fine.
There were four cars in the class: two Excels and a mate's turbo Charade. I got a lot of thirds - the first one because I deserved it, the remainder because I came last after one of the Excels withdrew with a very rattly motor (ie: I came last! ?).
The Charade was a DNS when it split a fuel hose on the start line of the last race, so I picked up a totally undeserved second place.
Also had a spin on the dirt when I decided to try a FWD scando and failed...
And the clutch started slipping badly. I have a slight hope that it is just because we got overly excited with adjusting the pushrod and have stopped the pressure bleeding back off. Maybe.
This photo is a bit nothing, but is probably the most fun/exciting part of the track in the Mirage. You have just come off a long, fast left hander which tightens as you hit the dirt. If you get it right and there's nobody in the way, you can do it without lifting. Then while you are still turning on the dirt, you have to slow down for the right hand hairpin.
This is not (yet) chronic understeer, it is the rear stepping out under brakes.
And a photo for the lols - I am not Hindu, I had just dropped a spanner onto my forehead... Which is why I am giving the stink eye to El Wifeo... ?
Oh, and anyone who has been to MDTC before: the track is VERY different.
