I get a delayed forward gear when stationary and going from P into D - I thought trans issues were the XC models and pre 2004. Is this how its supposed to be

Ill just be using Valvoline like Rontons uses he said gets the castrol out of the cars from Solitare here in adelaide

I'm sure Solitaire (dealer?) wouldn't be using a full synthetic Castrol, probably Magnatec Pro?
I dumped the Amsoil 10w40 PP last night for M1 0w40, I'll see how it goes later on tonight.

Ex850R;70175 wroteI have said this before , my very low mileage 850R didn't like the mobil1 at all.
It worked better with castrol synthetic.
My later x70 turbo cars seem happier with mereril or semi synthetic although I am going to Penrite/Repco full syn for the V70R and see how it fares.
The whiteblock is certainly a finicky thing in many areas.

Was it burning oil (Mobil 1)? Or are are you talking "feel" or noise?

You saying Dealers use their own special Castrol - not available to public?

Frequently yes

It's a wholesale only product that can require contracts etc and comes at a much cheaper price

The product itself will frequently be the same thing as in the bottle but sometimes may have slightly special formulation to identify source

Castrol edge 0w40 is what castrol told me to use when i rang the technical help desk . Since its more expensive than the consumer magantec I assume its better

But since i spoke to Ronton I till use the recommended Valvoline based in his experience

Don't all the dealer's that use valvoline get a good contract with recycling etc included? That's why they sell it too you.
I always took my own oil in when getting a ship to do services.

With my old R , it was the way it revved with both feel and noise and voodoo that it just 'right' on M1.....
Penrite as Mike suggested above made it into my later T5 motors and its good.
With frequent oil changes I still reckon mineral oil is good for these engines. It's what they were built to use in the day and yeah , syn improves on that for longer life but these are not racecars and we overdo oil changes so no harm there plus it just works better for me.....
As I said , I am giving Repco/Penrite Syn a go again.

Rontons (independant Mechanic) says the castrol Solitare (Dealer) uses causes soot that blocks valves or I cant remember exactly what he said. He said the Valvoline he uses clears it up. I am just hoping the reset and adaption on my tranny will fix the very minor delayed forward response i get when parking

I think it would be more correct to say (and quote) that 15000km changes lead to sludge and other build up (even using synthetic oils) whereas 5000km changes don't (or significantly less).

Former keeps servicing costs down - latter keeps it going longer.

Yes my strategy will be to use the Valvoline Rontons uses and change every 5k kms
