Tonight, I busted out a 'mini project' - I haven't had much time lately and I decided that I'll replace the LCAs in the Vocus during the suspension swapover. Since I don't have LCAs yet, the suspension will wait.
Baby Lola is also 6 weeks old so I'm happy spending 'my time' hanging with her too.
Anyway, the boot carpet in the Vocus was disgusting - its cheap carpet over fibreboard with a foam matt underneath. It's stained, it's separating and it's horrible.
I couldn't find a decent one from a wreck and don't even want to know what Ford pricing might be (even at my buy price). Going to any great expense is likely pointless in the longer term anyway.
I know zero about trimming and upholstery so I figured I'd knock an alternative together.
This stuff is 'Palight' and is 'foamed PVC sheet' - its 3mm thick, strong but flexible so won't shatter, easy to work with and you can cut it quickly with a jigsaw with a typical aluminium cutting blade.
I traced out the original boot carpet and got cracking -
I trimmed it a couple of times, to ensure it sits tight in the boot, cut a hole in it as a removal handle and added a strap so you can pull it 'up' (so it bows and deforms) and get it out easily if need be.
By that stage it looked like this -
I bought the Nylon strap from Spotlight. Navy blue is a nice contrast, though in hindsight I wish I'd gone black.
Aluminium countersunk washer and fasteners are all kart seat mounting hardware.
All finished up, it looks like this -
And in place, it looks like this -
I don't think I like the handle cut-out shape, it would have been better as a rectangle with rounded ends (2 holesaw cuts and joined with the jigsaw, instead of 3), but on the whole it's a heap neater than what I had. It's a lot lighter and cost less than $30.00 to make. It can stay.
