A 1976 was our first Volvo. The km might not be genuine due to the soft cog in the speedo they all get - but at same time, by the interior I can tell it's not far off genuine. Even so, $3000 is quite steep considering the paint job it needs. When it gets to that point, they rust under the paint.
I don't know why people do that... set a buy it now - but, 'phone and we'll talk price'... (Then for goodness sake, just start the bidding at the price you won't go below in the first place.)
There's a high chance there is rust too - just he hasn't seen it. Our 1978, the owner genuinely thought there was none - and so did we on inspection. But the vertical seam just above each corner of the rear bumper - inside the boot at that spot, there's these cardboard panels that cover it - and with that kind of paint wear, even though paint was thin in that vintage, it still indicates the car has either been washed a lot, or, in the weather. i.e. It's had water running down the boot channels, and inside the tailights that always seal poorly - and so, along those seams behind the cardboard. So I bet there is rust behind that spot.
That said, it's about as good as you're going to see, short of one restored.
The only thing I didn't like about our '76 was the chrome trim on the front guards, around the blinkers, and across the front edge of the bonnet... they are also a magnet for rust. Volvo got rid of them in '78 (perhaps '77 too - but I've only owned a 77 as a parts car, so can't remember if it still had those or not).
BTW. Although he says no aircon, you can see it's fitted.
Muffler fitted in the last couple of years - is not worth even mentioning. I had a brand new one fitted and it rusted out again in two years.
