Slowbrick About a month ago I bought a 1989 Subaru L series with the intention of driving it from Tasmania to Newcastle. It was very cheap and came with 6 months rego which I couldnt pass up. Well the good news is that it made it without much issue and was probably the best fun ive had with a car on a holiday. Greg was so kind as to pick the car up for me and keep it at his place until I arrived. Without beating around the bush, the car is rough. The interior is not much to look at and the door trims are sun damaged and cracked. The stereo install is pretty bad and doesnt work. The fuel gauge doesnt work. It has a medium sized exhaust leak and leaks water and oil non stop. The clutch is a little shaky but doesn't slip and might just need adjustment. It has a decent sized dent on the front drivers side and the indicator lens is broken. I gave it a good service in Hobart from parts Greg had gotten for me as well as parts I had to get from Repco. Then before we left it needed two new tyres which I got done at one of the tyre shops close to the hostel we were staying at in Hobart. On the first drive it ran really hot and i thought it was just the gauge not reading right as the cap was not venting and I couldn't see any steam when I opened the bonnet. I decided to see what the thermostat looked like and surely enough it had a broken tab so wasnt opening. $20 later and it had a new thermostat and was running sweet again! All these things being said, it did a fantastic job of carrying us from Tasmania to Newcastle in moderate comfort. We built a bed in the back and whenever we found somewhere nice we just parked up and camped out for the night. During our trip we covered just over 3500km from Tasmania to Newcastle. Now that its back home I am cleaning it up in preparation to use it a few more times and then eventually sell it onto someone else who can hopefully use it to see Australia like we did.
Slowbrick Yesterday I began giving the car a good scrub. Alot of the dirt didnt really want to come off so I had to go over it a few times. Its going to need a good buff to get the shine up but these are the results from yesterdays effort after a wash and a once over with some cutting compound.
Slowbrick serk;69132 wroteDamn, that looks pretty tidy. Where to next? We are thinking of doing a trip to Seal Rocks as it isnt too far from here and then one to Jamberoo before the water park closes. Then it will hopefully be up for sale for someone else to enjoy.
Spac Dack Blynamite really likes this car. He even offered to have sex with me in it. I told him that Subarus are for wankers and he gave me a knowing wink. Then it got weird.
Vee_Que It did leave a mark on my driveway, but so does my catch can. Otherwise the car was alright. And wow the paint came up good!

You wouldnt even fit in the back bruh. Not with that huge head of yours. Also having sex with you would be like me choosing to eat Homebrand Frootloops over the real deal. I like the fruit but im not that desperate.

Ex850R Nice! These things go forever , from a time when ScAbaru were at their best doing just good engineering. What's it worth?
Slowbrick On Saturday I gave it about 500ml of water in a water torture session. Didnt really blow too much smoke as a result, but the sticky lifter that has made itself known on startup no longer makes a peep! It also seems to idle smoother and start easier from cold.
Slowbrick It looks like the drivers side one has been replaced recently and I cant say much about the passenger side one. They dont make any noise when going full lock so I'm assuming they are ok.
