Unfortunately the car currently looks like this! The front and rear suspension are on, so in theory it could get back on it's wheels, but it is a very long way from driving. The owner put it on its side to attempt some rust repair. All the parts have been in a shed for 15 years and are surprisingly good. Manual overdrive box, diff, doors and other parts are rare now, even if the car can't be salvaged.
Some carriers say that they will transport project cars if they have glass, working brakes, no detached interior components. So unfortunately rail and open trucks are out so far. Perhaps it is worth reassemble to some extent on site? At a bargain $1500 for the car (1971 manual injected Aust delivered), the question is if it is still worth the cost of up to $6K by the time it gets back. The car is rough, but the owner has not given up on the idea of it being restored, so won't let me just create a couple of pallets of parts to ship back at relatively low cost.
My latest thought is build a crate, flat pack it and send it over as freight. Go over, pack the car in a box, and have it delivered by tilt tray to a trucking company. As miscellaneous low priority freight the cost might be ok?
