G'day everyone,
So I've got a 1994 940 Wagon. In preparation to getting it, I made myself a bunch of cassette tapes as well as buying a tape with an AUX cord attached. Along with the speakers not working fantastically the tape player worked for about 40 minutes then chewed up the tape that was in there and hasn't worked since. I actually have a spare radio from a 940 sedan, but I have no idea if it works or not either, and to replace it with the one that's in there now would require a bit of fucking around with the wires and connections in the back.
SO. My question is, is there a way I can fix the tape player in the radio that's already installed, and failing that would it at all work to buy a more modern radio player with AUX capabilities and then somehow install it instead?
Any suggestions welcome.
Cheers, Oli.

Put an aux unit inline , the Grom? I think it's called . Tape way is rubbish quality.

Sounds like the drive belt snapped. Replacements are tricky to get these days, but try Wes Components.

If you want to go high tech, there's a fellow in Adelaide who used to advertise on the Volvo Club of Victoria board, who adapts old Volvo OE cassette radios to take a USB stick or SD card:
Modified radio cassette (RX-93 series) to replace cassette mech with a MP3 module. Reads USB and SD cards via sockets where the cassette used to insert. Original cassette control buttons still operate MP3 module (Prev / Next Track & Pause/Play). Cassette REV button now toggles between MP3 and original AM/FM circuitry. $155 + Postage. Or $125 to convert your radio or exchange. (Note: exchange radios do not need to be working, just complete and presentable). Contact Craig csrasmussen [at] bigpond.com for more details.
