Volvo S40 T4 big brake upgrade options

Hi All, I am competing in a race called the 24 hours of LeMons which is a charity race for cars costing less than $999.00. We have purchased a rather poorly looked after 1998/9 Volvo S40 T4 which I must say, I absolutely love! One issue we have come across is there is limited knowledge of Volvo modification (that I could find) here in Australia. I am hoping that I may be able to get some good advice from this forum. We are all over the suspension and mechanicals however we are drawing a blank with the brakes. I know that the S40 shares some common parts with the Mitsubishi Lancer and that Evo 3 brakes are a direct swap however they aren't much of an upgrade. Can anyone suggest a possible upgrade that isn't going to break the bank (no pun intended), we are looking to run at least 2 spots in the front and larger diameter disks, we already have a set of 17" rims so we have room to grow. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have other suggestions on weak points to look out for.

The thing is I think evo's use a different bolt pattern and the s40 a 4x114.3
So what cars use that bolt pattern? Honda seem to use it.

A disk catalogue may help. Then a trip to a pick and pull.

It should already have the 280mm discs
If it has the 256mm discs you can find the bigger stuff on any 2000+ phase 2 model

Best upgrade on them are good slotted discs and good ceramic pads

The heavily modded 2002 I ran in the usa had no issues at the road of America track with the above
(also had kW series 2 coilovers and most of the suspension braces ever made for an evo 3)

Evo 1-3 are 4x114.3
It's all good, I have found a set of endless 4 pot calipers with 280mm slotted disks which will do the trick. Thanks for your responses. I am sure I will be back with more questions.

I have a set of Evo6 brakes that are earmarked for my T4. I've redrilled the rotors for 4x114.3, but there's no way the big calipers will clear my 17" wheels.
The problem isn't the diameter, it's that the wheel's spokes don't clear the calipers. The only 4x114 wheels I've seen that might clear in both dimensions, are big dollar motorsport wheels (Compomotive, OZ, etc).

Fitting a "deeper" rotor doesn't appear to be a realistic option, due to clearance issues around the ball joint.

My current plan is to use some Wilwoods with two piece rotors that came with a race car I bought. But I haven't looked into this properly because I've got too many other projects....
