Recapping (for my own benefit...):
Car: $50.
Wheels: $150.
Cage: $240.
Service: $90.
Brake pads: $150.
Direct expenditure = $680.
Seat, harness, tyres, steering wheel all came out of my shed. Realistically, the tyres probably owe me $150, and the seat/harness would be worth ~$100, the wheel $50, so I'm comfortable saying that the car is worth/cost $1k.
Event entry was $800 ($200 each). Licence was $50. We used about 80 litres of fuel inc practice/qualifying, so about $100 worth.
If we'd split the costs evenly, individual costs would work out at $300 for the car and licence, and then $230 for the event.

That looks a lot of fun and on a decent budget to, would love to have ago in the future :)

More work on this today.
Doubling the neg camber on the LHS front tyre, after we toasted the outside edge last time. I had planned on flipping the tyre on the rim (and moving it to the right hand rear) but it's too far gone. Will put the ancient Dunlop semis I've got, on the rear for next event. New tyres all 'round for the event after.
Added heat shrink to the coils to try to shut them up (I foolishly removed the rubber spring seats, so the springs moan and carry on).
Air con delete was remarkably simple. SuperCheap had a listing for a power-steer, non-air-con belt. Will see if it's right when I get home...
Still to do is future out the rear springs. Either clamping them top and bottom to keep them captive, or replace them with something else.
Pics later.

Replace glass with lexan?

Not allowed.
Doesn't look too bad here...
But much worse here:
Hard to show negative camber, but here's my alignment tool. The bottom white line is stock, the second bottom is how it was set last time.
And no aircon!

Eh, images are all out of order. You can figure it out.

Two of the four new Hankook Z222 tyres. Total of $480 fitted, but I get a $100 debit card in the mail, so they work out at less than $100 each.
These are "ultra high performance" road tyres, rather than the "semi-slicks" they're replacing. But the thumbnail test says they're considerably softer than the old 221s. If they turn out to be rubbish, then they can go onto a road car, or used as wets or something.

Where did purchase?

Local-to-my-work Bob Jane. Very impressed with the service, TBH.

Interestingly, new tyres say treadwear of 200, old say 80. Not sure if heat is an issue (one of the old tyres still has a napkin stuck to it, that it picked up while hot at the end of the last event), but like I said earlier, the thumbnail test says the opposite.

What size?
I want some for one of my rides

These are 195/50R15.

We finished 6th today. 8 seconds behind 5th place, and 6 seconds ahead of 7th, after 4 hours of racing.
No dramas, all four of us got into the 52-second lap times (best was Sim at 51.88, although it was the only sub-52).
I know what it needs to develop it further from here, but am trying to work out whether to bother, or whether it makes more sense to revert to Plan A and build a 2.0 S40.

Is there any rule that prevents you from running a 4 stroke leaf blower in the passengers seat location blowing into the intake whenever you go full throttle?

Some of the ideas you come up with...

Used it again today. No mods since the last event - not unless you count a wheel alignment and removing the sound deadener from the underside of the bonnet as mods...
We finished 12th, maybe 11th, but they had a full field of 25 cars this time - so we're staying with our solid mid pack performance. There were some funnies with the timing that I haven't got my head around. I'm not calling shenanigans but I will be looking at the results very carefully.
In any case, we were clearly in the (back end) of the competent group. I think it did 226 laps to the winners' 241 - but there were five or six cars within six laps of us.
Car ran beautifully again.
Paulie avoided a beserko overtaking manoeuvre where the car trying to overtake him managed to spin the car ahead of him... ie: the car running in 12th place was spun by the car running in 14th place - Paulie in 13th avoided the mess.
I got a solid nudge from behind by a front runner with an over-sized ego. I was trying to get past one of the slower cars when I was caught by three or four faster cars, who were dicing.
Rather than waiting, or overtaking us one at a time, he got stroppy at me (remembering that I was stuck behind a slower car myself). He hit me from behind, and kept pushing. I considered hitting the brakes and spin going us both, but instead I just made sure I baulked him so the other cars trying to pass him, had ample opportunity to do so.

We deliberately were silly with the pit board. Everyone else seems to take themselves very seriously...
Here's our effort: made from old cardboard packing and a texta.
And a non-descript photo of Petey right before the end of the race.
