Good to see it found a good home. Looks like a great project. I don't think a 91 model would have had an airbag, I've only seen it on 93 models in Australia...

it goes 'clickety clackety'; if you give it a little throttle it jumps and hops; with more throttle it smoothens out (inside wheel starts getting drive)

Cheers mate. That's pretty much it for now, need to save money, keep it running well and hopefully get it through rego in June.

Hopefully plenty of skid pan days and mountain runs :)

So did you change the diff ratio in the end?

I've always found that lockers are pretty good with grippy tyres. Will unlock etc, with shit tyres it makes the car borderline dangerous.

Mostly because I want to save the semi slicks in the rear; i was thinking of getting some normal(ish) road tyres for just the back to run for skid pan events.

Re003s are good daily tyres. They take a pounding and behave with a locker. Economy tyres will result in you changing lanes in the wet. If the car was turbo....

Switched the rear wheels out for the BBSs, they have 185/60r15 with second hand ze912s...pleased to say that for the first time ever i can spin wheels from a standstill. Unfortunately I had to mount them on 40mm 5x108 hub and wheel-centric spacers that I just happened to have lying around, because I didn't have the right lug nuts to mount the wheels straight onto the hub (the studs didn't stick out far enough as opposed to the spacer studs which were a lot longer and allowed me to get lug nuts onto.)

....Unfortunately I now have a really bad shuddering vibration that eminates from under the car (and subsequently shakes everything) upon acceleration. I'm suspecting that I need either u-joints, driveshaft centre bearing or something rear end related replaced. The shuddering started happened after I did a first gear clutch dump with the 225/50 semi slicks...the shuddering, clunking and banging has only gotten worse as the days have gone by.

I will be taking it to Lupica Motors tomorrow to get them to get it on the lift and diagnose it for me; hopefully it's not too f'd up underneath.

I would hazard a guess at it being the centre bearing, fairly common issue.

...turns out the rear universal joint was pretty rekt. Got it replaced and all is good. They also fixed my overdrive (an earth wire wasn't secured or something idk); ten minutes later it stopped working so I'm assuming the wire came lose again.

I think they are stupid and sealed is used for a reason by manufacturers.

update time! Drove from Sydney to Melbourne and back over the long weekend. I made it through the journey in one piece but it was definitely an interesting experience.

10km into the way down, my lights started dimming, radio stopped playing and the idle started going up. Eventually all electronics died and the car didn't want to rev, which I later discovered was because it was overheating. It overheated because the alternator had died and the electric fan wasn't getting any power and cooling the engine as it should have been (the double edged sword strikes). I pulled over at the next exit and waited at a side street for NRMA.

At this point it was 8pm, and I called Joe Lupica to see if he was still around, and he was; an hour later the car had been towed to Lupica Motor Repairs and we completed a 9pm alternator swap; the new alternator was off a low k's 240 and was in really good nick, so with a coffee and energy drink by my side I set off to the motel we booked at Albury-wodonga, where I arrived at 4am. The car was fully loaded with band equipment, tools and spare tyres, so the ride wasn't the most pleasant with the BC Racing coilovers and sparco spring. I could feel every bump and ended up with quite a sore back by the end of the trip. With the engine sitting at 2.6-2.8k rpm for hours on end, the vibration transmitted by the yoshifab motor mounts weren't too bad but was definitely noticeable. The OD was useless up hills, and 4th gear wasn't too good either with all the weight in the car. Anyway, long story short I made it there, played some fun shows and drove it back.

Prior to the trip I sold the semi slicks and switched the tyre setup; 225/50 toyo proxes 4 on the front and random 195/60 on the back. Skidz.
Picked up another set of hurricane extractors that I'm not sure what to do with yet. At this point I'd really like a shaved ported big valve 531 head to put on and some ECU chip work, or a switch to weber 48 DCOEs. But money has other places to go.
