  • 740T Plus pack ex Heino via Darcy.

As promised my 740T + pack.

Some of you are aware of it as belonging to Heino and then Darcy, the car was a fair price and shows a lot of signs of love and respect with mostly quality parts used but as she is nearly 30 stuff will age and im working my way through all that.

The interior which was red has been replaced by a Leather GLE interior and I wasnt sure if this was the norm as until this car I wasn't familiar with 740 turbo s intricacies and then I saw an immaculate White 740T seeing the mixed leather/cloth seating so this may be something for the future.

The car is interesting in so much as it left the factory as a manual and was converted to an Auto which drives fairly well.

Interior needs a tidy in the plastics and trim areas but its in surprisingly good condition although I need to do something about the headlining.

Drives nice too as the trip home was 150 ish km and she did the trip without missing a beat.
2nd good detail wash yesterday shows me what I have to do.

Apart from evicting 12 or so mid size Huntsman spiders hand washing is a good way to get to know your car.

It was a good car, will be better with a good auto fitted.
Not used to Sedans im thinking theres tow springs under the back but she still rides nicely so they stay for now

And what im tackling with the paint is part old wax build up and part oxidisation, To be expected as Yellow and Red and the 2 nightmare auto colours for fading.

Its a bit abused yup but she will probably see an M46 this year.

wiped the front end down with Prepsol and got a lot of wax residue off using old microfibre cloths, gave it another hit with turps and then another with Prepsol (Sometimes sold as wax remover) and the paint is still fairly oxidised and has been resprayed I gave it a good cut which brought it up a bit better but still faded so im going to hit it with a machine and see how she comes up after that.
Replaced the Washer motor too as it was kaput and removed the washer hoses and washer nozzles to be replaced with new hose (I have 4 meters of clear MB Washer hose) and new nozzles as the old ones were corroded.
Already put new Bosch wipers heads on so in the next few days that will be buttoned down.

Pulled the side repeaters to wipe around them with prepsol and they are a bit past it so they will be replaced Monday with units I have spare (If I can find them lol)

Also need the red clip on lenses for the courtesy lights on the doors as there were none on the car when i got it and the trim needs a tidy and refit at some stage, Also told that the seats have bum warmers fitted so I have to find the loom for that and some switches once she is on the road.

Pod filter comes off tomorrow arvo as well and original replacement Turbo airbox will be fitted as sucking hot air from the engine bay is a bit stupid IMO and because I want a nice dense cold air charge.

Also adding magnetic sump plug and will check and replace the thermostat unless the thing is new and keep the old one as a spare.

First time with climate control HVAC and im still getting used to it but a new dryer and a recharge is on the books later this year, I dont use AC much in summer but come winter I run warm dry air all the time so its got to be charged.

Had the wheels off the old girl too and the disks all look good with bugger all lip and plenty of pad meat so a few more niggly things and she's going to be close to RWC.

Last thing will be a new screen if she needs it as they are always nice.
4 days later
Decided its time for the HD Green cutters applied by hand as the paint on the front of the car is cheap and nasty as well as thiiiiiiiiiin...
And in the Old School spirit I shall Turtle wax the sucker by hand buffing with a cheapy reciprocal buffer.

Stay tuned folks!
Oh and No I didnt do anything to it today, Coz 44.3 degrees
Love Turtle wax.
My panel shop guy said to use it too! He doesn't use the products from his job , he uses Turtle Wax at home!
Yup!
Doesn't do too well with machine buffers for some reason but with elbow grease it works well enough for me.
He noted that it is the best for car with clearcoat peel , wash well and wax it a lot and frequently.
Partly true, you need to remove the old wax after a few applications.
Again Mirboo North has been a bit hot lately and my one remaining bay in the shed is currently chockers with car parts that need sorting so im at the mercy of the elements till I sort the shed.

Then its a hard cut, rewash and loving fondle with wax
I do like a fondling with hot wax , ooooh you dirty......

Guilty as charged :-D

a month later
Still at it, section by section with Green cutters and so far I haven't rubbed through any edges but im finding I have to remove trim as I go to do the job right.

The colour still doesn't match but its getting closer and every time I finish a panel I give it a quick hit with Turtle wax Spray which seems to be watered down Car wash wax but it does show me the fruits of my labours.

Had the dash cluster out and noticed that there used to be Cruise control fitted at some stage so I have to source some although im buggered if I know why someone would remove it.

Refitting the Plus Pack will be a bit more complicated though and can wait till the driveline comes out but more importantly most of the Vac hoses are being replaced as the old ones are crispy and leaky as hell so the list grows every time i work on it.

So my time on this car is currently spent rubbing, wiping and fondling as the smooth finish on the duco after using cutters is addictive lol

Waiting for 20 meters of Quality Vac hose too and I'll replace every hose on the thing along with the PCV system.

Finally a question, I pulled the grille to access the front of the car and found that the thing has a bug screen fitted that covers the intercooler/radiator and lower air intakes and its very nice and well made.

Is this a Volvo accessory?
Cue @asiandriver , Will to answer that.
Will is an encyclopaedia!
The bug screen is standard. Don't bother with a turbo plus, use the boost controller. it probably didn't have cruise, just wiring.

I'd get silicon hose, and also clean out the pcv. They do like to breathe heavy.

And a man of fine taste too!

Dont use anything but silicone Vac hose since I spent 100 bloody hours chasing Benz Vac leaks, Every bloody engine or body accessory sucks lol, stuffs great, ends dont split, Hi temps no problem etc

Must ask Heino about the cruise, may have been an after market unit maybe.

That bug screen is a brilliant idea.
