They are an acquired taste for sure....but especially the ones wrapped around gherkins rather than onions, are just deeeeeeeeeelicious with a spot of sour cream!!!
We used to get them here, but about 12 or 13 years back they decided to ban them under quarrantine laws as they are an "uncooked fish product" and therefore someone theorised that potentially if you dumped them into a watersource they could potentially introduce some sort of aquatic disease........never mind that they have been to all intents and purposes "cooked" by pickling in acid for several months!!!!
Stupid.....and whenever I am in Melbourne I head straight for the supermarket and grab a jar along with a tub of sour cream and pig out on a rare treat!
