Hey chaps, what is the process in getting a car on club reg? I had a look at the Volvo VIC site, and it didn't come up with much information.

I am currently not a member of the club. Would they be less likely to approve club plates if I'm not an existing member?

My process - take car to Berry. Chat to Mark. Heino happens to be there. Form is filled and signed, and I sign up to club. Head to VicRoads Burwood. All done in <2 hours!

The club mag is actually pretty good too.

There is info on the Vicroads site, you may have to search the site to find the documents though.

Essentially though, you need to meet the following requirements:
Be a member of a club that's signed up to the club permit scheme.
The car must be at least 25 years old.
If the car was made after 1948, you need a current roadworthy certificate when you apply.
If the car is modified beyond what Vicroads allows under VSI8 https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/vehicle-safety/vehicle-standards-information then the car will need a VASS certificate, and will end up being issued with M (modified) club plates, rather than the usual H (historic) club plates.
You need a receipt to show you own the car when you apply.
A representative of the club needs to sign your application forms.
When you renew the club permit each year, a club rep. needs to sign the renewal form before you post/hand it back to Vicroads.

There are a few forms to fill out when applying, but once you're on the scheme things are pretty straightforward.

And there's plenty of clubs out there. The process used to be easy, now you need a RWC before going to get your club membership and permit.
Generally a small sign up fee to the club, and an annual renewal cost which is small. You can get either 45 or 90 days rego for between 70-120$ and need to fill out a logbook each time you drive.
That's enough to to drive it on the weekend cruises but not enough to be your regular milk and bread getter.
Angus have some good info, just don't try rort the system by pre-filling your logbook before driving and only adding the date if you get pulled over. If you get a speeding fine, vic roads may ask to see your log book has been filled out on that day, and if you haven't you risk losing your rego.
