Hello all,
I have an '81 244gl. I am trying to find out its history. The local volvo dealer found nothing on the volvo service system going back to the mid-90s. It was first regoed in nsw in 1988, but the trail runs cold there. I personally have tracked the car's history back to 2000. I am the car's 9th owner in nsw (7th private, went through 2 dealers in the time).
Would there be any point ringing up interstate rego agencies to see if they have any record of the car's VIN on their systems?
On another note I have found out that about 6100 Volvo 200s were sold in Australia in 1981. I wonder how many '81 models are left? particularly yellow ones?

It's unlikely that any interstate rego agencies would have records on it if hasn't been registered in that state since 1988 or earlier.
Do you know where it was sold from new?
Where did you find out that they sold 6100 200s in Australia in 81? I'd be interested to know those numbers for other years, and if they list specific models for each year.

That's the thing - I have zero history on it pre 1988.

Good luck. I bought my car from the original purchaser. He bought it from Reg Hunt in VIC. I emailed them, had his full name, address, DOB, driver license... made no difference - they had zero records after a certain year.
