XC90 transmission warning message

New to owning a Volvo, and have a 2006 XC90 T6. I have two issues, which seem somehow related so after advice on where to focus for repair/s. Firstly the red warning light comes on after a while and I get the 'transmission-urgent service' message. Oddly it seems to only occur on warm days, and even then sporadically. The second issue is a knocking noise and clunk feel through the steering when on full steering lock. This comes from the left wheel only.

Not sure whether the two are connected, but after the steering knock occurs, I can go for a week without seeing the transmission warning. The gearbox seems to be working fine and is not noisy. The car sits at around 2000 rpm at 100kph, but if the warning light and message appear it revs at around 2250 rpm at 100kph.

Any thoughts or experience with either or both these issues much appreciated.

Welcome.
Definitely take it and have transmission serviced , flushed and software reset/upgraded. Knock could be CV ?
If in Melbourne , Berry Motor Group or Voldat.
NSW peeps can chime in as can other state Bruce's on who is best independent Volvo experts.

Masons prestige volvo would be able to help you, you need to read codes first and go from there but advise a auto fluid flush

update TCM software at a dealer, may well save it, along with a proper flush/ filter change

latest software got higher line pressure and more torque control on shifts

Update.....thanks everyone for your contributions. I'm in Melbourne btw, but live half way between Bendigo and Tulla airport. I'm guessing there is no close authorised dealer/repairer, which I would prefer. Had a look in the wheel well area on full lock. I'm couldn't see anything obviously 'bad' , a little oil stain on the cv joint boots. On the subject of the full lock clunk... Definitely from the left side, the car feels like it falls towards that side as you turn hard, and the clunk feel and noise is on either lock, but worse on full right lock (ie. Load to left side)

Now gone a week with no transmission warning, I'm guessing a monitor issue rather than mechanical. Will go for service at the start of new year. Let you know how things go.

4T65 wasnt ever really up to the task of the T6 engine in an XC90

Id be looking to get filter/ flush and up to date software sooner rather than later

Masons has been around for 30 years and their techs have been there for twenty years or more, xc 90 noise most likely fit the modified o rings.

Ray, I have found Masons extremely helpful and knowledgeable, I couldn't be happier with the service.
They will even pick up your car and drop it back off ; ) ....but I'm guessing you might be a tad out of the way

I just picked up a 2004 T6 last week..and mine is going into Masons tomorrow to address a lack of power, spluttering feeling when hitting the gas, and an ongoing drop in revs. Heard good things about masons so hoping they can diagnose and fix my issues and hope it's minor and cheap :)
