Okay so a year has passed and I've got a fairly decent amount of work done to the car.
Front suspension issues were solves at Ikes in Canberra, couldn't identify the problem stated by the previous mechanic. I've now had the DVS front and king rear springs, along with the Bilstein B6s in for almost a year now and I can safely say their performance has completely transformed the handling of the car. Now feels like its on rails rather than the aircraft carrier esque handling of before.
Modern radio and speakers: Was after the plainest radio that would blend in with the rest of the car but quickly learnt eveything seems to have bright blue or red lights. Opted for a good Pioneer head unit and replaced the original 4" speakers with some $40 (Kenwood I think) low profile units from Repco. Had to enlarge original hole slightly and drill some closer mounting holes but it fits in beautifully and nicely matches the ring around the grille. Sound quality is excellent, a massive improvement over the originals.
Fitted the radio in the lower area, made the surround out of 1/16th balsa and covered it with model aircraft fabric and dope. Result was a nice textured surface for the radio to sit in.
Gauges have been added along with some floor mats and an extinguisher mounted in the passenger footwell. My crown jewel is a recently acquired Momo steering wheel that I've been hunting for since I first bought the car.
Did a few other small things; ran a phone charging cable from within the dash up the door rubber to poke out where the phone mount is, new flame trap, chassis braces, central locking (best upgrade yet for sure), number plate protectors, new front suspension rubbers etc. Also made a quick wheel well cover and gave the rocker cover a paint while it was off, ran out of time for the cap unfortunately.
Had a dent in the wheel arch and some rust in the rear quarter fixed and finally treated the car to a professional detail. The car is very well squared away at the moment (touch wood), looking at an LSD and 230FT conversion in the future.
Cheers,
Jacob
