How difficult/expensive is it to source all of the parts you mentioned to do a basic B230FT install? Would it be better to get a whole car or could I get away with finding the individual bits? Whats a ballpark figure for all the bits to do a stock install?
I would say using a whole car is best, I didn't buy the whole car but instead spent a day out at the guys place basically pulling everything out of the engine bay since I don't have space at mine for yet another non-running project car.
Buying parts separately is going to be a pain since there's a bunch of little things which you'll probably forget about until you're putting it back together and which can't be bought at a reasonable price later.
Find a 7/9 series, pull everything from that in one go then get your hands on a loom for a 240 and you're ready to go.
As for ballpark cost, mine roughly broke down like this:
Engine, turbo, wiring, computers etc. ~$600 (this was everything from the parts car)
Oil cooler lines ~$300
Exhaust ~$1500
Other shit ~$250 (engine mounts, gaskets, oil, filters etc.)
Exhaust could've been cheaper but I went for 3" mandrel bent with the "do it once, do it right" idea.
If you can weld or just want a downpipe to suit the stock exhaust it'd be heaps cheaper.
I also just remembered that the b23e alternator, a/c and steering pump won't fit in the stock spots on a b230 since the harmonic balancer is a different size so you either need to get the b230 versions or make/modify the original mounts in order to get it to all line up.
