Interchangeability of V70 auto transmission

I am wondering if anybody knows about the interchangeability of the auto transmission fitted to the 1999 V70 2.4T and the 1997 V70 2.5T (low pressure turbo). From the little clear information I can find the key issue is that you need to ensure that the computer and wiring is also transplanted with the transmission, and they work well? Apparently the electronics are paired?

Does anybody know if the 1999 transmission is any stronger on these cars (is there any advantage) and are they actually interchangeable once it comes down to bolt patterns and the like. I understand there is a small ratio difference.

I have been told that you can only swap over transmissions with exactly the same part number, or they don't work well? I have the spare transmission, but it may not be viable for the car?

4 speed is a 4 speed is a 4 speed
trans is the same from 94-2000 (for the 4 speed)

Itd help to know which box would be going where?
Generally the older the car the more leniency youll see in gearbox mismatching

If your after an older 4 speed box - from say a 1998 HPT car, Ill will have one available in the coming weeks

I had a 1999 NA V70 and had no issues with my box, but I was careful with it (the 4 speeds are usually pretty good)

Keep away from anything ME7 & 5 speed as its not worth the work to rewire it, because in the end itll still be an automatic :/

There isnt much difference between the Turbo gearboxes as long as they are pre 1999

That said, I will have a 1998 C70 HPT gearbox available with 170,000 on the clock that i can garuntee drove like it was new

Hello and thank you both. I have the gearbox already from the 1999 car (low km), and it is going into a 1997. The American forums have lots of conflicting information about interchangeability, so it excellent to have local opinion.

The 'Merican forums are all over the shop , peeps post and have no idea and their car years dont match ours plus they have a different spec for their market as well.

Now , is your 1999 a 4 or 5 speed ? there-in lies your answer.

That and the incompatibility between M4.3 & ME7, if you have to as much as touch the wiring its not worth it
