Hi There,
I used to have a T5 and am now the proud owner of a T6.
I had my T5 tuned by BSR, however, don't feel comfortable with them tuning the T6.
I hear Polestar can get some good figures out of the T6, however, have heard that MTE tune the car to be ~5 seconds to 100.
Has anyone had any experience with any tuning companies with the T6 - in particular the V70 AWD T6?
Thanks
Joe

What year?

Hi - It is a 2008
Thanks

If you try putting more than 440nm through the 6 speed you will kill it quick
Not much tuning to be had other than a V8 swap

Interesting...even the polestar one goes to 480nm...are these gearboxes expensive and easy to come by?

The gearbag killing you speak of is not as common as you are painting it.
joestram
So does that mean it can handle a beating? I don't intend on doing standing 0-100 rev'ing and then dropping it into gear...it's more for rolling....apparently the mte removes the torque limit in first and second...

That is where you would be in for dramas, especially if you launch it too.

So are the 1st and 2nd gear limiters there to add longevity to the gearbox or because they are weak?
egads (she/her)
Too weak for continual peak torque and you have to make size vs strength trade offs in transverse setups.

Ive got a V60 T6 that's recently be Polestar "enhanced". The V70 T6 you have has slightly less poke than the later car but it's not really noticeable (although, the V70 is a bigger aircraft carrier to push around it has to be said).
My honest feedback is that the Polestar "optimization" is great for mid-range shove and it's certainly more lively in the low rev range. As you know, the T6 is really about torque more than spinning it out to the redline.
However.....I'm not sure it's really worth the money to be really honest. The standard tune in Drive was fairly leisurely and really came alive when slipped into Sport mode. I doubt the Polestar claimed performance improvement for acceleration.....the 6 speeder is still the Achilles heel
As for fuel economy.....well, all the claims of unaffected consumption is bollocks. I'm seeing 17-19 litres/100 around town. And worse when I drive in a "spirited manner".

Hi Hounddub, I really appreciate your feedback.
I was worried that for 1800 the Polestar wouldn't really deliver - I guess at the end of they day, being something sold via Volvo, they would need to be conservative to ensure hardware isn't effected.
Although it is more of a risk going with the MTE tune, I feel myself edging closer to that as it is also 500 cheaper and promised so much more.
I guess at the end of the day, these big heavy cars aren't inclined to be rocketships, however, it will be nice to have some more grunt under the right foot!
Thanks again
Joe

Swap the V8 in
You will never look back

I like the T6 - it sounds like a jet fighter when the windows are down :)
Besides - I will still have the gearbox issue
joestram
@egads - what do you mean by "size vs strength trade offs in transverse setups"
Thanks

The V8 has loads more low down push and no turblow lag
Drive it and you will instantly understand the difference
The fuel economy on the V8 is better than the t6 as well by a good margin

Only so much room to fit clutch packs when you are space limited means compromise as compared to a rwd setup
joestram
Thanks for the explanation!
It's odd that you say that about the V8.
Looking at the "on paper" figures, it doesn't really suggest much of a difference.
Does the V8 have the same gearbox as the T6?
I heard that the president swapped his V70 T6 for a s80 V8 so there must be some benefit in doing so!
Thanks

Heino wanted a v8. Nothing to do with the car.
All autos are a size compromise. With the t6 being so long there is length issues for fitting 6 gears and 8 or ten clutch packs inside. So they need to be smaller, which has less surface area. Therefore weaker.
Good for a rwd swap thougH.
