where is the BOV on a Turbo 850 wagon

There is a bov of sorts on the compressor housing of the turbo. You will need to remove it, blank it off and fit one to the intercooler pipework.

I just found a heap of info on these models etc.apparently a 16t turbo will bolt straight onto it.and it said to find a GLT ecu and get that chipped as because my car is rare,I would have trouble returning to stock if I wanted too in the future

I have a 98 V70 XC with the same engine. I got an ecu from ARD tuning and fitted a 16t and white injectors along with an angle turbo housing and 3"DP.That setup should run approx 250awhp. Any turbo ecu (me4.3 or 4.4) can be remapped to suit you're car, but ARD can just supply a complete tuned ecu and you just keep your stock one. You can bolt a 19t 20t or 20g aswell, but they will blow your engine up. Who in their right mind ever really returns to a stock setup anyway? Also before you get too carried away check your viscous coupling/angle drive. If its on its way out don't expect it to survive long with more boost ask me how i know!!

Ash is absolutely correct, all AWD 850's are LPT. I am not sure what boost they run, have never put a gauge on mine. It is quite a bit less than a HPT car though.

MBC will definitely make it go better as Les said, longevity is the concern though without a tune.

A 16T is a good bolt on. Definitely get a tune to go with it, even if it is only something basic. I like ARD for basic stuff at a good price, if you want something more tuneable and/or arguably better for our local conditions there are other guys here who know more than I do..

...and yes. Check your AWD stuff. Works well when in good shape but not so much at other times.

Thanks Tim,I will look into ard as bsr requires me to send my ecu to them.Is it possible to get closer to 300awhp with bolt ons by any chance? And I will get underneath it on the weekend and have a look at everything etc.is there anything in particular to look for towards wearing on the angle drive?

Wouldn't worry about all out power , its how the power is made and a good big gob of low and midrange torque is the good thing about an LPT motor with a tune or MBC.

I am selling my ARD ECU for LPT , its for s/v70 , not sure on your year 850 , Rob is expert at that stuff!

When you mention GLT I see you are reading USA specific forums. Not much of what they say applies to Aussie cars as ours are quite different in power , trim and emissions stuff plus , most of them wouldn't know anyway.....

You get great bottom end off that 13g , a 16t a bit more up top.

I also have a nice big alloy intercooler to bolt straight into yours for sale! You're lucky day!

You need to ask what pwr the different turbos will make.
You can boost the LPT motor just fine but best with a tune as the extra compression ratio it has over the hpt motor means good fuelling is critical.
Beware that in making it "stage 0 " it means cooling system and possibly cat converter as well , or gut it....

Les' V70 ECU will be 4.4, your 850 will be 4.3. It will work a treat :) but will require some wiring mods to the car or programming mods to the ecu or it will fry things.

It won't do your turbo any damage at all the td04 range don't create enough pressure to do any damage I know loads of cars running blanking plates with no adverse effects for years

I thought the point of the bypass valve was to prevent compressor stall when you snap the throttle shut between gear changes, preventing lag on gear changes?

Thanks mate,I know online is not very reliable for info for me.look were its gotten me so far :/ I thought you guys would know alot more about these cars on here.i guess that's why I'm hitting you all up with all these questions etc. As for the ard ecu,injectors etc.definately pm me because That's an upgrade I want asap! And as for the cat,you said gut it....do you mean take all the ceramics out of it?

So what would happen if I put a blanking plate on it without a bov or cbv?

You'll just get the flutter /chatter sounds

And tonnes of back pressure through the charging side of the system. Which can find weak points or weak soft hoses and blow holes. As well as loading the compressor wheel. Not that it will cause damage to the blades it can load the wheel incorrectly causing issue or damage to bearings/seals. (It takes some effort for the later though)
