Hi Guys,

Bought a 2005 V50 Recently and I love it so much. Bought this knowing that it is a good used car and runs well.
when I bought it the old owner said the heater doesn't work, Which doesn't bother me and will fix it sometime in the future.
cleaned Mass air flow sensor etc, and some basic home servicing just few days ago, I found something doesn't look right.

near the firewall between the engine and the cabin, I found a pair hose that seems to have snapped. and the other hose did not look connect to anywhere.

not sure if this actually a loop or not.

I was wandering if anyone here can help to identify this.
would this be a part of Air con? or it is like this by design? keen to know what this is before I bring it to the dealer.

Thank you in advance

Michael

Completely uneducated guess, but that kinda looks like a heater hose and would explain why it doesn't work. Probably disconnected to stop a holy core blessing your carpet.
What is happening with the kinked hose below..
Does look like coolant has been there at some time.
My guess a heater hose that has been bypassed

Okay well this guy here shouldn't be looped... That would be the engine outlet > heater inlet hose, and it has been looped back into the engine. This means your heater core is bypassed. This is why you have an inlet and outlet from the heater core (which is behind the firewall on the other side), neither of which are connected to anything. This of course explains why the heater does not work. But before reconnecting that, I strongly advise you to have the heater core checked for leaks or blockage, there would have likely been some reason why the heater core was bypassed in the first place...
The heater core is bypassed cause its leaking cause someone ran water instead of 50/50 mix in the car

The heater core is a pita on a v50 but not the end of the world

If you need to pay someone to do it expect to fork out about $1500
Hi jay and Bear

Thanks both for your comments and tips.
I've done my research, and I'll save up some money and prepare for the winter.
Kinda sucks but I will need my heater back on.
Thanks heaps I really appreciate it

looks like the quick connection broke and rather than fix it they decided to kink the other hose which would bypass the heater matrix.

a year later

Youtube on how to remove the heater core. Looks like a bitch of a job - time consuming but ok for DIY.

New core available from multiple sources including RocAuto.com for under A$300.
