I didn't purchase anything new. The Hilux will get used fairly often when it's fixed, especially if/when the wagon is sold and I give the Excel back.

Impressed to hear of this updated scheme. Some people would have been working very hard behind the scenes to get the RTA to see the sense in allowing this.
Well done for std cars anyway, next step down the track would be to hopefully to allow modded cars.

Talked a little bit to someone senior at the RMS through my comminsure contact yesterday
A replica vehicle of a time appropriate race car is 100% valid
A general modification of a time period car is not
The specific example he gave me was
Putting a Volvo branded turbocharger on an 81 242GT = No issues
Putting a LS7 into a 1981 242GT = Forget it
Things like suspension changes in shocks and spring rates are fine as well
Things like changing from a McPherson to a double wishbone is out
Common sense and the attitude test will be applied as always
Barwick10
With that are they going to let you register it without getting it engineered. E.g. turbocharging a 242?
Philia_Bear
Anything that rules would normally allow for
EG engine swaps are fine if just doing swapping from one standard offering to another
So... putting a USA spec B21ft into an 81 AUS 242GT is fine
Putting a 1995 B230ft into a 242GT is also fine as no one outside of a Volvo tech would ever be able to spot the minor differences
Barwick10
That's good news then. Last time I had this conversation the result was that I needed to get it engineered because the 242 turbos were not aus delivered.
Does it need to be a volvo branded turbo?
Philia_Bear
Needs to be appropriate for era
T3 60/42 = all good with or without volvo written on the snail
30r with polished housing = forget it
Your easiest bet would be a 19t that said volvo on it

What about my R-sport carby turbo kit? Which evidently was a dealer option if you had silly money.
Barwick10
Well I'm tickled pink about this news

Who inspects the vehicle to determine whether or not it's eligible?
Vee_Que
If its like vic. It was a club nominated person. If not, a roadworthy was needed. Now you can only use a rwc.

Valid as long as all OEM or equivalent replacement

Combination of Club and normal pink slip
Major Ledfoot
Cars have to be at least 30 years old. So the 780 isn't eligible until 2018, otherwise I'd bring her to the meet next weekend.
Dauntless
Does anyone have any more information on this?
How would I figure out if my current or planned mods for my vehicles will affect eligibility?
This might also be a useful link for those who haven't seen it:

Are you talking about the historic category or the modified category? The historic category is down to the individual club and so you'd be best to speak to them as to what they would or would not accept. There is generally a bit of wiggle room though.
As far as I am aware no details more details have been released about the modified category and it is not yet in operation. I should get another update at the next volvo club of nsw meeting though. Im very interested in the modified scheme for both my 244 and 242.
Dauntless
The modified scheme, I guess? I'm assuming that is the category I would need for my vehicles, but I don't really know how it works.
VolvoHordz
Not much to do but sit back and wait at this stage. The modified scheme might still be a little ways off. The implementation of the logbook scheme was a complete clusterfuck and apparently at the time of Duncan Gays announcement they hadn't even started seriously looking into the details of the modified scheme.

The red car would be fine under the normal category
egads (she/her)
Red car is all period style mods or fixes in the safest way with modern components if memory serves so would be normal scheme.
