DIY basic servicing

I have bought my first Volvo, a 2005 V50 auto wagon, and want to do my own basic servicing such as changing engine oil and filters, checking and changing transmission fluid, changing plugs etc. Can anyone out there in the same position point me to a reliable source of information either in printed form or on the net? I have registered to day with OZVOLVO and have not had time to go through all the info on the site. Any info would be appreciated.

Hi @philbarry, welcome to Oz Volvo! There are many good sources for information, including asking questions on this site.

One good thing to check is the FCPEuro YouTube channel to see if they have any how to videos for V50s.

Another good source of information is the Haynes manual for your car:

Haynes manuals are of varying quality but mostly good and definitely useful for explaining basic maintenance procedures.

In basics
The oil filter is on the front of the motor on the drivers side and is a cartridge type in a black plastic housing
Drain is at the back of the sump

The engine in your car is the same one used in the C30 which is easier to find video's on

Everything about a C30 and V50 are the same from the front of the car to the front of the drivers seat
