This is the S40/V50 (P1) style shifter, the S60/V70 (P2) style is, I think, effectively a mirror image of that. This one can't be reversed to mount the other way though, by the looks of things.
The lever looks to be cast so, I, personally wouldn't cut-n-shut it.
Interestingly, this one is a Ford part (not relevant, just interesting, considering all of the Volvo branded components you see in a 5cyl Focus when you scratch the surface of things living under the bonnet) as it has FoMoCo cast into it.
Is it aluminium or steel?
Hey Ash, thanks for all the info. Yep, I think its cast as well.
I knew it was a part for the P1 (Ford related cars) but didn't realise it was an actual Ford part haha. Not sure what material its made of. All the aluminium is left unpainted which makes me suspect this is steel, as it has been painted.

Here is a screenshot from VIDA showing that lever on an S60R. You can clearly see it is facing the other way. I also
found the correct part on eBay.
You can see the intermediate lever for the P2 cars is different from the P1s, and isnt as much of a 'mirror image' as I initially thought... Does anyone think I can modify the existing lever, or make a new one completely, for less than the $400 cost of getting a replacement??
I think the best solution here is either to buy the new lever or make one up. It wouldnt be difficult to make up but you'd need to know clear dimensions of what you need in order to avoid lots of trial and error, multiple fits and refits and a less than pretty result.
Is 30681438 definitely the part that would work?
I'll price it up if you like - shoot me your email address (or remind me if I should already have it) and I can get back to you to see how competitive we'll be against pricing you might already have.
Yep, I've been thinking about just buying the lever as well. However that presents me with another problem. The awesome guy at Bilia Volvo tells me there is an old style lever and a new style lever with 2 different part numbers. Both levers use different cables for the shifter. So, if I buy an old style lever, I need old style cables and the same applies for new style, which are not backward compatible. Apparently. So anyway, as I haven't bought my shifter/shifter cables yet I'm reluctant to buy a new lever as I might need the old one or new one. The new style from Volvo is $750 :/
Therefore, I don't know if 30681438 is definitely the part I need. It will work. I think this is the old style lever, so I will need old style cables (which I can source as well) but thought I'd hold out. Also does anyone know if what the parts guy at Bilia is saying is true?
I'll hit you up with the part numbers and send you a PM man, thanks :)
Ghettobird;60692 wroteWheel caps definitely don't come with exchange boxes XD
Looking good Jeremy!
The parts guy was a sweetie and was nice enough to throw in $40 worth of wheel caps for free cos I spent $320 on basically nothing haha.
Vee_Que;60719 wroteYeah, being cast i wouldn't muck around. It can be done but shouldn't and won't be reliable.
Yep thats fair, I agree with you on that one. Would it be possible to make something from scratch? Although I fear we would have to be minutely accurate with that and it would be arguable easier to just buy the correct part.
Ex850R;60724 wroteGetting it machined , exxy.
Getting it 3D printed? Maybe an option
Yes, you're right machining probably would be expensive so almost better of just paying Volvo for the part haha. Not sure on 3D printing, it would have to be done in a very strong material.
