  • The return of Jay's V70XC ft. M66AWD. (The official manual conversion thread)

clinton;69049 wroteThat is awesome!.
It seems like the cost of a tune might outweigh the benefit of having the cruise control, particularly on a manual car. But, to be fair, I have never really been a fan of cruise control on manual cars ;-)
Tuning costs are varied but for a simple tune and removal of the auto feedback, it won't be expensive. And considering I want to drive the thing around the bloody country, I think cruise will be well worth it. I also passionately hate the idea of having the cruise control switch on the car but not doing anything. It may as well be a blank switch, which I also passionately hate.

For those of you who want a time lapse video of the entire conversion, see above.
Philia_Bear;69195 wroteTime for brake upgrade and bigger turbo?
Brake upgrade will happen when these ones are due for replacement (won't be too far away) and turbo when I have money... So basically, yep. Not done with this car yet HAHA.

Necroing an old thread, but wanted to say nice writeup and pics.
Any rough estimate of the final cost, I saw some numbers but not sure it was everything.
Wondering the cost difference should the TF80SC in mine ever die.

Thanks

The costly bits are the box and driveshafts, but given enough time they can be tracked down for the right price. Use an 850 single mass flywheel to keep the cost down.

Has to be pre mid 04 to do properly.
I paid a lot of money, Ive never wanted to put the final price up as some people are very judgemental on this forum, hence why I basically never come on here anymore. But I was under time pressure so I had to buy a lot of new parts, if you have the time to wait, the correct parts can be found on the used market for way less $

But its been like 2.5 years now since conversion and the car is still going strong, no complaints at all. I am in the process of updating my YouTube channel with some more info about the conversion after many people have requested it. I may write up a guide too but eh, I feel like my crown has been somewhat removed in recent years with other members doing similar conversions so I almost don't see the point anymore.
I haven't seen or heard of any other conversions?

(And Im not having a go at anyone, everyone is welcome to do their own conversions I wasn't the first nor the last but I felt I copped alot more criticism over mine than anyone else has so I just cbf with it anymore)

Understand, if you want to PM me I promise I wont be judgmental.
I just did the math on what my exhaust cost me all up including shipping and govt thefttaxes, and it came to $2850, before fitting. Surely it's cheaper than that
Haha I assure you it wasn't cheaper the $2850, PM Sent.
I loved reading the build, such a gutsy move too as a first go at such a job, a massive learning curve too.
Amazing effort Jay.
