Yes the design is unfavourable, but, you still need to maintain your vehicle.
When the drive belt breaks, it’s uninhibited from landing in the valley behind the crankshaft pulley and wedging between the cam belt and crank pulley which derails the belt.
Unfortunately, most mechanics don’t believe in preventative medicine whereas I preach it every single day.
Had the drive belt and tensioner system been replaced earlier, obviously this catastrophic failure would have been avoided.
