Alright so I managed to sort out my problem, but I'll share what I found out in case anyone else has issues and runs across this...
So they don't see to have a shiftlock override, so I'm unsure how you would override it if it fails (assuming that it can fail and become stuck in the locked position) you should be able to hear it click if it's working, where I was having issues is actually that the shift lever on the transmission itself had seized up and was making it seem like the shiftlock was active, in this instance the linkage could be disconnected by removing the metal clip retaining it, and simply lifting it off the shift lever on the transmission, thus allowing me to shift it out of gear into park so I can withdraw my key.
Thankfully was able to work the lever on the box loose, and seems to be mostly okay now, will probably get better as the car sees regular use.
