242GT round front headlight

Looking to buy 1 or 2 original headlights for 242GT in good condition - happy to pay for item and freight.

Major Ledfoot

OE part number is 1215282-3 for RHD (aka left-hand-traffic).

These appear to be unobtanium brand new. GCP, Skandix, and Brookhouse UK don't have any.

164 headlights are the same.

8 inch sealed beams were a factory alternative in the US, so maybe a RHD-suitable sealed beam could fit.

Major Ledfoot Yeah I don't think the USA ever had 8 inch…seems to be a Volvo-specific thing. All the USA round headlights were 7 inch or the quads were like 5-1/4 or something.

There used to be a heap of generic H4-globe round headlights on the market from brands like Narva and Hella, in a whole variety of sizes. Could maybe something new & generic fit?

Nah the generic ones are all 7" round, which was a standard size for many years, but 240s run a Bosch special 8"/200mm round.

Has any asked Daniel Stern (no not the Home Alone guy, the Daniel Stern Lighting guy, he used to be really active on the SwedishBricks mailing-list back in the day)? I just checked his site, he doesn’t actually have an online shop & isn’t cut-price, he operates by email so it might be worth sending him one … unless someone already has?

I might have some , especially if they are the same as 164. It will be a little be a week before I am home to check and I don't know what they are worth. I kept a few 240 round lights on a box from back when I had my wagon 20 years ago.

carnut222 Oh! My mistake. The catalog (as you can see) lists sealed beams; I (incorrectly) assumed they were 8-inch units.
HASY = right-hand traffic (LHD)
VASY = left-hand traffic (RHD)

1971_144GL Looks like it, but measure to be sure it's not a 7 inch unit as they look the same.

Are you still looking for a headlight for the 242? I have 2 Bosch H4s and a Hella H4. They've seen better days, I must admit, but they are in one piece. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you some pics.
