Hey everyone. I'm looking at a 2012 XC60 D4 Teknik with 145K on the clock. What should I check before going ahead with the purchase? Are there any common issues I should know about? What's your experience as an XC60 D4 driver? I had an 850 and XC70 before. Both purchased second hand. I had no problems with the 850 but I had some transmission issues with the XC70. I'm hoping for a problem-free drive for a couple of years. Your help would be much appreciated.

muko Do your homework carefully. During this period of FORD darkness there were some oddball transmissions that were rubbish and possibly engines that are best avoided.

Watch out for FWD only, early VEA engine (or non-volvo engine) and powershft transmissions. Google ford powershift.

Earlier VEA engines had high oil consumption issues especially if oil changes were stretched. This was not "fixed" until 2017'ish.

If it doesn't have 5 cylinders or a reputable indipendent volvo specialist history you can check out directly with the mechanic I'd steer clear.

pauljloz Thanks heaps. It's a big help. From what I understand, the one I looked at is a 5-cylinder but FWD. Is there any way to tell if it's a Ford or a Volvo engine? Thanks again.
