ahhhh well the 95 940s is definitely starting to look better haha
Vee_Que
Where are you located? Qld im assuming?
Deano26
yep yep
Vee_Que
If you aren't afraid to rewire the car and then one day put a later turbo motor in, the 240 is worth a little bit
Deano26
Im not afraid to re wire it at all. My mate is an auto elec. and another mate tunes cars with Megasquirts. It was a pretty straight car. I do like the 940s wagons though. but would love to do a manual swap on it.

That 95 940s is a solid looking beastie. Has the best of the engines and the later stock EMS (lh2.4) which is quite smart and adaptive for the era and a lot of safety features and has an easy margin to get it to the power you are looking for. The 240 sounds like a strip and redo jobbie at least for the electricals so might turn a cheap car expensive.
Deano26
I could always buy a 240 manual later and swap the engine out of the 940S if i buy it as well aye?
egads
Yup. Would be the perfect engine and ems for a swap.
Deano26
Wicked, Might go check that wagon out. Anyone got any tips on what to look for in the 940s? common issues and so on?
nickm
300 hp whiteblock vs redblock is very different.
Deano26
how so?
Vee_Que
Don't wreck a good 940t for a shitty 240.

@Deano26 I think it comes down to what you want to do with the car.
There are definately pros and cons of both. Changing a heater core on a 240 is a royal clustermess.
If you just want a turbo DD and have no plans to do anything more with it, the 940 is likely going to be hard to beat. It's more refined, it's a 'later' car.
If you are thinking about doing track work or that sort of thing, out of the box, a 240 handles better when pushed along, it has 4 spot front calipers (compared to sliding calipers of the 7/9) the rear suspension wont need reinforcing or try to pull itself out of the floor like it does when you try to extract more power from a 7/9.
The bad points of both can be rectified easily enough though.
The performance aftermarket for the 240 is considerably bigger for the 2 series cars than it is for the 7/9.
Deano26
Yeah maybe the 940T is the way to go. Because it will be a daily. Might go check it out this weekend.
AshDVS
A '95 one should be a nice car anyway, assuming it's been looked after.
Vee_Que
And parts are available for a 7/9 anyway and the handling difference is not that noticeable between both unless your on the absolute limit Imo.

@Deno26 300 hp in a B230/23 is a challenge they just don't flow as well as the white block. So you need a bigger turbo and the management system is not as equipped to deliver that much HP.
The T5 and T6 white blocks deliver near 300hp from the factory. A b230FT is about half that.
Late model 940s are nice cars but 250hp would be more realistic for a DD.

My take on this, avoid a turbo conversion that isn't spot on...if it's neat and tidy and runs sweet and has a few thousand mm of trouble free running after the inevitable shakedown and debugging....then go for it. Otherwise run or convert one yourself.
In this case, I wou,d go for the 940 then ask Alex about a T5 conversion, stronger than an M46 anyway.
Vee_Que
Not quite nick. The amount to spend too fit a whiteblock ends up being more per dollar for a while. Especially if you go 16v...
Deano26
I just have to say all you guys are awesome. I didn't expect this much support and advice. This is a really great site and community by the looks of it and I'm glad I'm getting into it. Thanks heaps guys :)
