Updating HU 850 Headunit in 2005 XC70

Hi all. The stereo in my P2 XC70 has stopped working. Would love to have the headunit repaired to keep car original but too expensive to ship and have it done overseas ( could not find anyone local) plus feedback is the repair doesn’t last long.

Has anyone updated their P2 XC70 headunit recently?

Does anyone know if I put an updated unit in, assuming it has a built in amplifier, can I just pull the fuse for the seperate amp under the seat and assuming all connections are there ( including canbus), the new unit will work?

Only other issue then is how ugly a touch screen looks plus the loss of the cup holder but I will see if I can reinstall the cup holder into the new fascia plate.

my ugly touchscreen install, Alpine ilx-702D. See the gap at the bottom need get to fill that with perspex. I dont think its possible to re install the cup holder well neatly anyway

Looks like a neat installation.

Did you replace a HU850 and if so, did you re use the amp or just use the amp in the headunit? Also, does your steering wheel controls still work and if you have reversing sensors, do they still work?

Yes i removed the amp and also the centre speaker. Steering wheel control is via an aftermarket unit. I have reverse sensors but the early version unit works independent of the canbus.
