An unmodded 240 is not a quick car and light years from your current ride. So if you want power be prepared to modify. Tons of ideas and help about for that though.

In all seriousness, they're not bad on the highway at all. If it's an auto, it's going to suck overtaking, but the manuals are no slouch. Mine used to happily sit at 90 mph (145 kph) through the night, every night on UK motorways although it didn't like *really* steep inclines.

What was replaced in the tank?
These things are tight to work on but simple once you learn.
And once all bits are done it's fine for another 20 years bar front strut top stuff.
I suggest try 15" wheels.
Try swapping the lowered suspension for new Sachs dampers and springs made for the regular ride height.
We here usually say once you buy a P80 you spend $2K to get it all sorted for 20 years use.

Na the fuel work hasn't been done yet. I didn't know it was a problem - or what the actual problem was - until figuring it out on the Tassie trip. I'll book it in next week.

Hmmm. I've spent more than three times that at Berry's since I bought it, and each time I think, well that must be it. But it isn't. I'd be lucky to get $2-3k for it I reckon. That's why I can't love it and I keep wanting something else, but then maybe I'll end up with the same problems. So I'll keep it, and keep hoping I'll reach that fine-for-another-20yrs point after this next repair.

Great to hear you made it to Tassie and back! I guess I didnt ever a no start situation on an incline because Griffith is pretty much flat in all directions!
In regards to the clutch I wouldn't be surprised if it was due for replacement soon. The clutch that is in there came out of the donor car I used to do the manual swap. It had about 50% of meat still on it. The flywheel was in good condition with no hotspots or crazing. I used the existing clutch for a few reasons.

1. I was in Griffith and getting parts to me would be difficult.
2. It was our only car and I was on a time limit to get it back on the road.
3. It has a dual mass flywheel and that means the flywheel would need replacing at the same time as the new clutch which was off the cards for both financial and time constraints.

The slave is also the original one to the donor car as far as I could see. Have you had a quick look under the dash to see if the little helper spring hasnt popped off or is sagged? I remember that clutch having a sort of heavy feel for the first few centimetres of travel and then popping down to disengage. I also remember it would spring back quite hard like a 240 one if you let it.

I think you will be disappointed if you moved to a 240 from the V70. A 240 will be slow on the open road and you will be taking in the country side as opposed to zooming through it.

Its great to see the car still getting around and it sounds like you have taken lots of time to keep it in good condition. Both of us still miss that car. The noise and the power was fantastic! Also being able to fir your whole house in the back was a great feature!
