140 -164 wheel alignment and arkaman

Having trouble with wheels scrubbing out on full lockbox directions Tryed lots of adjustment but not satisfied ,cannot get accepted arkaman. My question is ,do these cars, because the steering arms are on front able to obtain a good arkaman.

lance1960 Spelling aside, what year model is your 140?

Note how there's 3 different versions of spindles. This means the tie rods, tie rod ends, and links rods are also different.

I believe the correct spelling is ackerman

If it is a 74, then this is normal. The pitman arm angle changed for the 74 year.

It's not an easy one for me because l can't tell you the year or model because the suspension unit is not on a Volvo. It's mounted on a austin A95 . I think the steering box may be to close to the cross member . Haven't got a car to compare it with.

Handy to know there are different spindles which mine, l have seen a part numbers cast on them.

Um, I've never heard of a 140 front end going into an Austin A95 Westminster, so.... ah... it's not a common problem.

How many parts of the front end have you swapped in there? The whole crossmember, or just the steering box?

I had thoughts of swapping a 140 front end into a Wolseley 24/80 (yeah, another project on the go....) except the 140 front crossmember is too wide for the Wolseley body. When I have a chance to catch up with the body man on the mainland, I'll have to arrange a time to meet up with to see if we can fit 140 spindles onto the Wolseley front end, and thus allow us to be rid of the ridiculous drum brakes. and have proper Volvo-spec Girling discs and calipers in their place.

Thanks Leadfoot for the link on the steering components. Able to then see the length of the components . Made up a dummy center drag link to measurement and then steering arms to suit. All is now good.

The complete volvo front suspension is bolted on and uses the austin steering box and idler. Which is also mounted
