picked up a complete b230ft and related bits to go in to the 240, and have noticed there is a bit of shaft play in the turbo. the question is, is it worth rebuilding a stock turbo considering that future plans are for a bit more boost, and if so where is a decent place to get rebuild kits?

The rebuild kits are simple, so they aren't bad from ebay. Its worth throwing a kit at it. But play is acceptable up and down, just not horizontal play on the shaft.

interesting, just looked up the play specs and seems that i'm in spec in that case so problem solved i guess, will report back when i have turbine wheel in my pistons

blowing oil? wouldnt stress.
almost all will have some amount of play. even new will have some amount. especially journal.
although its out of the car, and for the sake of $50odd its really just a bit of security

yeah had another look today, there is some radial play but not enough for the turbine to touch the housing, and no axial play that i could feel so will probably just leave it as is for the moment, will hopefully have bigger and better things coming along in the next 6 months or so anyway
