1999 V70 2.5T oil pressure light and oil pump no longer produced

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my 1999 V70 2.5t and I need your help. On my V70 I have the oil pressure light on/off on the dashboard, I first thought it was a problem with the oil pressure sensor but even after changing the problem remains. I then disassembled the oil sump, changed the seals, cleaned the suction line and the sump and reassembled everything, but I still had the same problem. I went to see the mechanic across the street and he said the oil pump was starting to die. The problem is that part number 9207950, which is the one for my pump, is no longer produced and I can't find one, even second-hand.

Does anyone here know someone who has one for sale or knows of another available pump that could be fitted instead?

I must say, I have never heard of an oil pump being worn out on an engine like yours, I wonder if your mechanic has tested the oil pump or have they just ASSumed, or guessed, that it Could be the cause of your problem?

How much time was spent? Was the oil pressure actually checked with a gauge, or is it just that because the light is coming on, the oil pump is responsible?

I believe you need to carry out more testing.

Plenty of mechanics ignore the fact that you must spend time diagnosing, and testing, before placing blame on a component which may or may not be faulty.

I would hate for you to invest in purchasing and installing a new oil pump, only to find the issue remains.

Yes, the pressure has been tested with a gauge: 2 bar at idle, less than 1 bar at 3500 rpm. After what I've already done by disassembling the oil pan and changing the oil pressure sensor, is there anything other than the pump that could be at fault, in your opinion?

That’s a serious drop in oil pressure.

The question is what’s causing it.

Is it the pump that’s failing to produce the right pressure or the rest of the system that could have a leak? The most obvious possibility is the rubber seals however you have already replaced those and the fact that it is making 2 bar of pressure at idle seems like they’re doing their job, something is definitely not right at all

At this stage, you have nothing to lose but time, remove the oil pump, disassemble and inspect.
