240 lower column shroud

Morning, I feel a bit silly asking this, but I cant work out how to remove the lower steering column shroud on my 78 245. It has a manual choke and it appears to me that I need to remove the choke to remove the shroud. Is this correct?… many thanks.

Can you see a screw behind the choke handle?

Oh is that what that blank is covering?! Never occurred to me it was for a choke, and hence the 1981+ dash parts wouldn’t have it as manual chokes were likely all gone by then!

There's no screw underneath the choke handle (sorry ramrod).

There are two screws [6] which hold the bracket [3] in place. When you get the column trim out of the way to do what you have to do, you can leave the trim piece hanging by the wire.

You may have to disconnect the choke cable from the carb if you want to remove the trim piece completely. The last car I from which I removed the choke cable and trim piece didn't have any engine, so......

Ahhh ... yup, sure is! I dunno, you young'uns wouldn't remember seeing chokes on these things. 😉 DLs had them up till YM 85 and after that it was all ULP and injection engines over here.

I drove cars with manual chokes … just not Volvos! In fact I don’t even think I’ve driven a Volvo that wasn’t injected (I count K-Jet as injected even though it’s almost as demonic as a carby).
