kwahodi Only had car for 18 months but it had no history of fluid change when I bought it.
When buying anything with a TF80SC, inquire about when the fluids in the Haldex, angle gear, and transmission were first flushed, and how often they've been done.
If the vehicle has more than 100K km on it and they've never been done, run away.
If the seller can't tell you when (or if) it's ever been done, run away.
If you don't want to run away, be prepared to fork out for a valve body replacement.
If you find a good vehicle with low kays, change fluids at least every 70K km, if you want the vehicle to live a long time.
These things fail because of a ridiculous salesman claim that these transmissions are "Sealed For Life".
'Sealed For Life' is an absolute myth - a total crock invented by fleet salesmen in order to fudge projected servicing costs. Salesmen would have you believe that fluids operating at 200+C temps and under high pressure last forever; as always, they're wrong. They peddle this crock because [1] they know the transmission fluids used in these things are as expensive AF and very labour intensive (thus costly) to maintain; and [2] they'll want to sell you a new car in few years when the valve body in the transmission is totally rooted from having dirty, contaminated fluid grinding away at the valve body bores.
As engineers know, any figures given from salesmen must be multiplied by 0.001 to obtain real-world numbers and estimates.
I'm in the process of tearing apart a dead TF80SC from an XC90 V8 (I got it as a package deal with the V8 engine, only because I wanted the bellhousing pattern for the B8444S in order to put a decent transmission behind it for a RWD application). When I remove and strip the valve body, I'll post photos of the mess here, so everyone can see what "Sealed For Life" does to the guts of these things.
Here's one pic of the thing opened up - there's not even a fluid filter in these things!

Sealed For Life has become UNsealed In Premature DEATH.
Edited to add: p/n 30783229 is for the D5 engine.
31259317 is for the 2011 D5.
I don't know what the differences are - maybe 2WD or 4WD? Maybe different valve body settings? Volvo does change part number for a whole unit when there only minor variations. volvopartswebstore doesn't list either of these part numbers, and my copy of VADIS doesn't work any more.
