P1800E steering wheel shaft size.

Can anyone help with the shaft size, looks like 9/16. What other makes have the same size shaft. Is the 140 the same?

Last year before The Great Show Tours, I got a Luisi boss a while back for the ES, the part number was 09770309.

I haven't used it yet, but with the number of panic emergencies 'round here lately, the boss box is buried somewhere within these four walls and I haven't had a chance to find a steering wheel for it. Meaning I can't find the damned thing right now to confirm for you if the 1800 steering shaft is the same as a 140.

Hi Rob, have a Moto Lita boss, i think it is 9/16 and 40 tooth spline. Looking for a SAAS style boss. Just like mag wheels are all made for a specific car, but can be fitted to many other makes. the steering wheel boss may be the same as other cars.

Heya - There's a meeting of The Launceston Chapter this afternoon, I'll ask one of the guys about this. If I don't get back to you here, please drop me a PM about this. I also have a 140 /early 240 boss, and I can test fit that on the LHD 1800E in the shed on the weekend. That said, I've never removed the steering wheel on that car.

I should have most of this giant mountain of paperwork out of the way by the weekend so I can find that 1800 Luisi boss.

Massey165 Consensus from The Chapter was the 1800 steering shaft and spline at the wheel end is different to 140.

Now to hunt down that boss, and compare it to the 140 one - then test both on the LHD car in the shed.

Allrightie Massey165 - Have been out to the shed, gotten a 73 164E steering shaft (same spline and diameter as a 140) out from under several things, and tried putting the 1800E boss on it - no go.

Visually compared the 1800E boss with the 73+ 140/164 boss - the 1800 appears to be slightly smaller in shaft diameter, but maybe that's a trick of the light. My small venereal calipers have a flat battery so I didn't measure them.
(note to self: Self, order a couple of LR44 button batteries so this won't happen again)

Regardless, the 1800 boss is a totally different shape from the 140 type boss.

Hey B - I tried fitting the 140 boss onto the 1800E's steering shaft - no go. 🙁

One of the Luisi bosses might be your best bet. These bosses appear to be able to fit SaaS wheels without dramas - I had a SaaS wheel and boss kit for the R-Ute, and also tried the old wheel from the R-Ute's onto the 1800E's sheering shaft, and the GM item isn't even close to the 1800E's shaft diameter (the GM shaft is a lot smaller diameter).
