volvo 264 GLE 1979 sedan
Volvo 264 GLE wont fire
Got spark?
Does she kick with Aerostart / Start Ya Bastard / ether?
How long since it last started, and has it been getting progressively harder to start ... or did it just not start one day?

To make guesses I think a bit more detail is needed, I'm absolutely not clear on the history (hey I'm not clear on much ).
So maybe some answers to ...
- did you replace pumps & filters to fix this problem, or have they just been replaced recently?
- if the pump replacement was for this issue do you know if they were getting power, not a relay problem?
- what did you replace the pump(s) with; new, or used ones swapped from another car?
- how long between you driving it & having the problem?
- do you mean you could have replaced fuel pumps without knowing it has fuel?
- or do you mean that maybe the fuel evaporated since you started trying to fix the problem?
- when you say run out of fuel do you mean the K-Jet stopped delivering fuel or that the tank might be empty (empty tank shouldn't be THAT hard to discover?)
- have you tried spraying-in those things @Major Ledfoot suggested while cranking - as if it starts running or kicks-over a bit, that might make it clearer that the problem is fuel supply?
- have you done the "check the sparks are sparking" test?
question 1 replaced both fuel pumps and filters
question both new pumps are getting power.
question 3 all pumps replace new Bosh.
question 4 it has been off the road now 12 months.
Yes we decided then it may be a fuel pump.
question 6 not sure what a k jet is.
question 7yes we have tried to spray and the car will fire an run a little bit.
question 8 plugs are sparking.
The main thing is we dont have any power at the cold start censor .
Dale question 6 not sure what a k jet is.
Bosch K-Jetronic (aka K-Jet) is the type of fuel injection system used on the car. It's basically a mechanical system which is highly dependent on correct fuel pressures and the absence of vacuum leaks.
So -
You have spark? Good. That suggests the coil, the ignition module, and Hall sensor in the distributor are okay.
It tries to run on ether? Good, that suggests the cams are working and there's enough spark.
So this could mean the K-Jet system is doing something dicky.
I may be wrong, but doesn't the cold start sensor only operate when it's bloody cold? Like, well below 0C?
You can answer this question yourself by searching in the Oz Volvo Technical Archives for "tp12044" which is the factory Green Book guide to K-Jet troubleshooting.
